The real estate industry comes together for people forced to flee

On 2 November, leading figures from Sweden’s real estate industry will gather at Berns Salonger in Stockholm for the inaugural Real Estate Shelter Summit (RESS) – a private fundraising gala in support of UNHCR’s global work for people forced to flee.

Real Estate Shelter Summit was initiated by Ronald Rico, founder and CEO of RED. Drawing on his own experience of coming to Sweden as a refugee from Chile, as well as his longstanding personal commitment to people forced to flee, Ronald wants to bring the real estate industry together around a shared cause.

The ambition of RESS is to raise SEK 50 million for UNHCR. Ahead of the gala, several donors have already confirmed their support, with some also committing to match RED’s own contribution.

The evening will take place at Berns Salonger on 2 November and will be hosted by Alexandra Pascalidou. The programme will feature speakers, performances and music, with participants including Barbara Hendricks and Fredrik Reinfeldt.

For Ronald, there is also a clear connection between the initiative and the industry in which RED operates:

“The real estate industry builds shelter for a living. It felt natural – almost self-evident – that we should also help build it for people who have none.”

Real Estate Shelter Summit will bring the real estate industry together around something greater – with the ambition of making a tangible difference for people who have been forced to flee.
