EKO Stormarknad to new retail project in Eastern Birsta, Sundsvall
Recently, the duo RED and Peritas entered into a land acquisition agreement regarding land for retail development in the eastern part of Birsta’s retail area in Sundsvall, right next to ICA Maxi. There were already then advanced dialogues with well renowned retailers regarding the area, where the goal is to strengthen the external retail in the eastern part of Birsta through the project, which amounts to approximately 17,000 square meters of commercial retail space.

There were already then advanced dialogues with well renowned retailers regarding the area, where the goal is to strengthen the external retail in the eastern part of Birsta through the project, which amounts to approximately 17,000 square meters of commercial retail space.
The duo has now officially signed the first tenant of the project, EKO Stormarknad (company within the Bergendahl group), that will open up a new maxi-store of approximately 8,250 sqm.
EKO Stormarknad has a wide range of well-known brands within their concept at low cost in home and leisure such as toys, flowers, decor, textiles, kitchenware, beauty, jewellery, storage products, basic clothing and seasonal items, all at discount prices. EKO Stormarknad was founded in 1964 in Fjälkinge, Skåne and currently has existing stores in Fjälkinge, Malmö, Borås, Kalmar, Västerås and Örebro. The store in Sundsvall, Birsta becomes the retailer’s seventh store in Sweden and the first in northern Sweden, with plans for further expansion.
-“We at RED and Peritas are very satisfied and proud to have joined EKO to our new retail project in Birsta and we are happy to welcome EKO to the new area. We strongly believe in the concept and EKOs offering, which will be a good addition to the other stores, as well as to other players with whom we have extensive dialogues about establishing the project”, says Ronald Rico, CEO of RED.
The plan is to open the doors for phase one of the new retail area in the autumn of 2019, which includes the EKO Stormarknad store.
