RED has actively worked to transform and develop #BERNSTORP in Burlöv into the successful retail park it is today.

In 2011, RED began its work to transform the retail park, then called Stora Bernstorp, to establish northern Malmö’s retail park, a counterweight to the Svågertorp shopping area located in southern Malmö. When RED 2017 took a comprehensive approach to the area, approximately 35% of the existing rental premises were vacant.

Through RED’s work, the original trading structure has undergone an extensive change that enables future continued development of the trading site. Today, the retail park is fully leased to most of the strongest retail players on the market.

RED has also expanded the trading area by establishing BAUHAUS, which opened its new DIY department store at the end of 2018. Service in the form of Fast-Food operators, car care and the possibility of electric car charging have been added to increase the attraction of the retail park.

During November 2023, everything was clear regarding the detailed plan and building permit for the implementation of the mega-project that will define #BERNSTORP into Öresund’s new shopping mecca with Costco, Biltema and an additional 7,000 square meters of retail.

The new Costco department store will target the entire Öresund region as a catchment area and will further strengthen #BERNSTORP’s role as a regional trade area. The establishment is expected to generate around 250 new jobs. The ambition is a grand opening in the spring of 2025. This will be the US-based trading operator’s second project on the Swedish market after the establishment in Täby, Stockholm.

Even Biltema, who previously acquired land from RED, are now themselves aiming for an opening already in the fall of 2024. The plan is to establish Biltema’s largest unit of all time at #Bernstorp with a volume of 11,000 square meters. The establishment is expected to generate around 100 jobs.

Gradually and methodically, RED has worked with great patience to stabilize the area piece by piece. A work that took more than ten years to complete, where RED has delivered BAUHAUS, attracted Biltema, filled the area with additional attractive strong retail concepts, added service to the area and now tops it off with a 17,000 sq m Costco.

RED is now focusing on one more remaining stage that holds 7,000 square meters where the company has already contracted Rusta as another strong addition to the area. In addition to this, the ambition is to fill the remaining volumes with well-known brands.
